A brief look back:
In the early 1990s, the first incarnation of Balance Theatre Project was created. It was spearheaded by Allison Sciplin, Joel Sass and Brian Columbus, and attempted to bring together a wide and varied group of theatre artists. We envisioned a kind of home for projects that anyone in the group might bring forth and elicit the efforts and talents of the others in making it happen. Two of the projects produced under the banner of Balance Theatre Project were:

In the Fire Light - Original adaptations of various literary pieces. This project was a showcase program, performed at the Cricket Theater in 1992.   I Usta Wanna Be A Standup Comedian, created and performed by Allison Sciplin. A one-woman, semi-autobiographical piece.

In 2001 the name was used again to produce a powerful and intriguing script:

Bash: Latter Day Saints by Neil LaBute.

This trilogy of short one-acts was performed at the Bryant-Lake Bowl in May 2001. It was directed by Brian Columbus and featured Anthony Paul, Erika Eklund, Casey Greig and Nancy Ruyle.

This well attended production, which received positive notices in the press, also included music by Minneapolis musician Lee Rude.

Then in the spirit of collaboration originally intended, Balance Theatre Project created two short films for a Fringe Festival production in 2006. Brian Columbus worked with Anthony Paul, and edited the opening and closing films of Paul's Serendipity - or - An Evening of Happy Accidents in Exactly Seventeen Scenes (More or Less), which was produced by Chopping Block Theatre.
